April 23, 2024

Dr. Beth Galliard aims to help older adults with age-related macular degeneration see more clearly. Dr. Venu Korampally wants to help people suffering from illnesses get into treatment faster through affordable tests. Dr. Junelle Bennett hopes that all of us use a greater level of rationality when making consequential decisions.

These three faculty members will be featured speakers at a new university forum Huskie Trek Talks: Ideas in Motion on Friday, May 3. In all, 13 presentations will be delivered in a storytelling style at the event, with each Talk uniquely designed to bring greater visibility to the innovation, discovery and creativity that are emblematic of the Huskie spirit for which NIU is renowned.

“There’s tremendous work happening at NIU,” said Galliard, Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. “I’m excited to participate in this inaugural Huskie Trek Talks and share how research at NIU may change the world.”

The event was created by the Strategic Development Team, which includes the Division of Advancement, the Division of Outreach, Engagement, and Regional Development, and the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships. Presenters are l be eligible for $60,000 in combined grants from the NIU Foundation, RIPS, and OERD.

More than 30 presentations were submitted from faculty and staff across the university, with just more than one dozen making the cut for a Trek Talk shared in both live and video formats. Trek Talks will also be livestreamed allowing anyone anywhere to witness notable “Ideas in motion” from this select group of campus innovators.
