Junior Nick Huggins (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) led the Northern Illinois men’s golf team with a second round 74 Saturday in the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms.

NIU enters Sunday’s final round in 15th place.

“It was another good day for golf at Rich Harvest Farms,” said NIU head coach Tom Porten. “Nick (Huggins) really battled his way around the golf course today and did a nice job. For our younger guys, this tournament continues to be a learning process and they will be better for it down the road.”

Houston continues to lead the Northern Intercollegiate after firing a team score of 293 for a 36-hole total of 572, five strokes ahead of second-place Liberty. Roman Robledo of the Cougars is the individual leader with a two round total of 138, six-under par. Robledo is one stroke ahead of Kentucky’s David Snyder.

Huggins had a solid round, carding a pair of birdies on each side of the golf course en route to the best round of the tournament for the Huskies.

Freshmen Pierrick Fillon (Voreppe, France/Lycee Pierre Beghin) and Jake Curwin (Fairbault, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary’s) each had a pair of birdies in their rounds on Saturday. Fillon finished the day with an 89 while Curwin carded an 88.
