NIU Public Relation Student Society of America raises Parkinson’s awareness

April 14, 2014

American Parkinson's Optimism graphicThis April, the NIU Public Relations Student Society of America (NIU PRSSA) is participating in Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month.

The goal as a student-run public relations firm group is to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and funds to support the American Parkinson Disease Association’s (APDA) mission to “Ease the Burden – Find the Cure.”

APDA has raised more than $80 million to date to support scientific research and provide support and education for the 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with the progressive, degenerative neurological disease that currently has no cure.

NIU PRSSA members are working hard to raise funds on a local level by hosting a bake sale and pairing up for an event with Buffalo Wild Wings in DeKalb. All proceeds will be donated to the APDA Midwest Chapter.

Members of the firm group will contribute baked goods for a bake sale located in the NIU Holmes Student Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 15.

From 11 a.m to 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 10 percent of all pre-taxed food sales from any guest who presents a NIU PRSSA fundraising ticket. Tickets are available online.

Throughout the month of April, NIU PRSSA will continue to raise awareness with social media, T-shirts, passing out grey ribbons, and planting tulips on campus outside Altgeld Hall at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25.
