City of DeKalb to take over Huskie Safe Line Nov. 2

October 28, 2020

Starting Nov. 2, the Huskie Safe Line will have a new name and a new look, but will provide the same safe, secure transportation to those who travel around town between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The service will follow the Huskie Bus Line Route 11. Originating at the Holmes Student Center, the line will allow passengers to access downtown DeKalb, Taylor St., Schnucks, West Lincoln Highway, NIU Residence Halls, Eco Park, Twombly Rd., Ridge Dr., and the DuSable Turnaround.

The bus will leave the Holmes Student center at the top of each hour, completing its route in 60 minutes.  It can be tracked using the same ETA Spot mobile application that currently tracks Huskie Buses.

While the bus follows a fixed route, it will be able to deviate from its route up to a quarter mile from a stop to ensure a safer drop off for riders with disabilities, if necessary. The bus will be equipped with radios to secure quick assistance from both DeKalb and NIU Police, in the event of an emergency.

The bus will operate  seven days a week, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, when there will be no service.
