NIU retail dining offers order-ahead food pickups through Grubhub

January 27, 2021

Huskies who want to skip lines at Northern Illinois University’s on-campus restaurants can order ahead for pickup using the Grubhub app.

Caribou Coffee & Einstein Bros. Bagels in Founders Memorial Library and Starbucks, The Grill at Huskie Den and QDOBA in the Holmes Student Center are fulfilling paid pre-orders.

Campus Dining Services implemented the partnership to continue providing students and employees with more convenient and contactless options.

“You can grab something while you’re walking to class without having to worry about waiting,” said Ryan Smith, assistant director of menu operations for Campus Dining. “There’s no stop, and you’re on your way in plenty of time.”

“And for faculty and staff that are on limited lunch times, the ability to pre-order is a big perk,” added John Boswell, director of retail operations for Campus Dining.

Students can use their Meal Plan Dining Dollars and Huskie Bucks in addition to credit and debit cards. Delivery is not available yet, but Boswell says the dining team is looking at the logistics.

“We are hopefully down the road going to partner with Grubhub to incorporate delivery,” said Boswell. “There’s not a timeline for it yet, but that is the goal we’re pushing toward.”

Grubhub users should select “campus dining” in the menu to find and add available retail dining to their ordering options. Students can connect their OneCard for payment options through NIU. The free app is offering $3 off  first on-campus order over $7 with use of the code “NOMS.”
