NIU participates in Model Illinois Government simulation

May 4, 2023

Two students elected to Executive Board

This spring, 12 Huskies attended the Model Illinois Government legislative simulation in Springfield, Illinois. The four-day event attracted over 150 college students from 13 universities throughout the state. The simulation takes place in the state Capitol building, using the actual committee rooms and the House and Senate floors.

Two NIU students were chosen by their peers to hold Executive Board positions, for the state-wide organization, during the coming year. Junior Gino Hernandez will serve as the group’s Secretary of State and Junior Alannis Munoz will serve as Lieutenant Governor. Both students will play important roles over the next year, in organizing the 2024 simulation.

Senior Phillip Skokowski was chosen by faculty judges, at the 2023 event, as the Outstanding Committee Chairperson.
